IDEXX SDMA

The IDEXX SDMA test:

An influential new kidney diagnostic

SDMA (symmetric dimethylarginine) has been shown in controlled studies in dogs and cats to be a more sensitive biomarker of renal function than creatinine and has recently been added to the International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Staging Guidelines.

Veterinarians in North America have submitted more than one million IDEXX SDMA tests since it was introduced in July 2015. The IDEXX SDMA test data suggests that kidney disease is more prevalent than previously estimated with creatinine assessment alone.

By using this simple blood test, veterinarians could be detecting kidney disease in over 2 times the number of cats and dogs than with traditional methods. The IDEXX SDMA test is earning a place as a powerful and influential new kidney test.
