IDEXX Advances Power of SediVue Dx with Latest Software Update

Neural Network 3.0 Brings Machine Learning, 70 Million Images into the Veterinary Practice for Faster, More Accurate Urine Sediment Analysis

WESTBROOK, Maine, February 5, 2018 — IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDXX), a global leader in veterinary diagnostics, veterinary practice software, and water microbiology testing, today announced the release of its Neural Network 3.0 software update for the IDEXX SediVue Dx® Urine Sediment Analyzer. This update to the analyzer's advanced algorithmic software is powered by a database of 70 million veterinary patient-generated images from more than one million tests run on the analyzer. It will benefit IDEXX's nearly 3,500 SediVue Dx analyzer customers in North America when performing urine sediment analysis, a core component of a complete urinalysis.

"I'm seeing things I've never seen before with SediVue Dx," said Larry Cowgill, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, Head of Hemodialysis Centers at University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. "Urine degrades quickly over time. The availability of this type of advanced, automated technology in point-of-care urine sediment analysis allows for more accurate, real-time results, greatly improving the medical value of a urinalysis."

IDEXX first launched the SediVue Dx analyzer in early 2016. With only 4-5 drops of urine, veterinarians receive comprehensive results with high-contrast images in about 3 minutes, making it easier for veterinarians to provide a quick, accurate evaluation of their patients. Fresh urine is considered "liquid gold" because of the precious clinical information it contains. Since fresh urine begins to decompose 30 minutes after collection, using the SediVue Dx analyzer allows the veterinarian to accurately evaluate the sample and provide real-time care to the patient.

The SediVue Dx analyzer's machine-learning capabilities enable it to better identify abnormalities with every patient result generated. IDEXX SmartServiceTM Solutions, which provides web-based customer service and support, enables these patient results to be aggregated and then leveraged to improve the algorithm. Regular updates, such as Neural Network 3.0, are then pushed out to all SediVue Dx customers free of charge.

This Neural Network 3.0 algorithm update is the latest in a series of milestones supporting IDEXX's leadership in kidney diagnostics, including the recent release of the Catalyst® SDMA Test, which gives veterinarians the ability to assess kidney function at the point of care and take action earlier.

"The SediVue Dx analyzer and Neural Network 3.0 bring the power of big data and machine learning to veterinary medicine," said Jonathan Ayers, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of IDEXX Laboratories. "Urine holds an incredible amount of information about a patient's overall health status, and SediVue Dx extracts that insight quickly, easily, and accurately. Urine sediment analysis is a key part of the well patient examination, and when combined with SDMA, IDEXX offers the best solution in the marketplace for understanding kidney health."
