IDEXX Laboratories Introduces the Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer, Making Laboratory-Quality In-house Chemistry Simple and Accessible For All Veterinary Practices

Advanced technology expands the leading line of IDEXX analyzers, combines chemistry, electrolytes and total T4 into a single sample run to deliver unprecedented clinical insight

WESTBROOK, Maine, February 14, 2014—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., announces a significant addition to its leading line of point-of-care instruments, the Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer. With the same reference laboratory-quality results and real-time work flow as the high-throughput, multiple-patient Catalyst Dx Chemistry Analyzer, the new Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer offers practices unprecedented speed, simplicity and clinical insight in a single-patient work flow.

The Catalyst One analyzer is the first to combine a full chemistry panel, electrolytes and total T4 into a single sample run. Chemistry and electrolyte results are available on IDEXX VetConnect PLUS and the IDEXX VetLab Station in 8 minutes. T4 results are ready in under 15 minutes—more efficient than other in-house methods and more immediate than reference laboratory testing.

“The Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer has simplified for veterinarians what it takes to practice the highest quality of medicine,” said Peter Kintzer, DVM, DACVIM, Medical Affairs Manager, IDEXX Laboratories. “The ability to determine a large number of a patient’s laboratory parameters at the point of care in a single sample run provides a level of diagnostic insight and work-flow efficiency never before available during the patient visit. Having access to these comprehensive results in-house creates greater opportunity for more face-to-face client conversations, which can influence client perceptions of value and loyalty, even how well they care for their pets.”

While the Catalyst One analyzer will come ready with T4 testing capability, IDEXX expects to introduce the T4 slide and its integrated work-flow advantages for the Catalyst Dx analyzer in early 2015. For improved work-flow efficiency, both analyzers use the same unique onboard whole blood separation and pipetting, and preloaded and customizable slide CLIPs with proven IDEXX dry-slide technology. Both analyzers also share the same comprehensive menu of 30 different tests for blood and urine, including phenobarbital and fructosamine slides recently introduced in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

“Year after year, IDEXX invests multiple times the total research and development spending of our competitors combined,” said Tina Hunt, Senior Director, IDEXX VetLab Chemistry. “We are focused on bringing veterinarians innovative and practical solutions that advance their goals and fulfill their needs, whether it’s a large urban hospital, rural practice or something in between. With fast, real-time results, streamlined work flow and a comprehensive test menu that we’re constantly innovating, the Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer offers all the advantages of the IDEXX Catalyst platform when a single sample run meets practice work-flow requirements.”

IDEXX is also making it easy to start enjoying the advantages of its Catalyst chemistry platform right away with a special introductory offer. Starting February of 2014, practices in North America that preorder the Catalyst One analyzer will receive a Catalyst Dx analyzer to use immediately while their Catalyst One analyzer is being readied for delivery. Practices interested in this special introductory offer need to run an average of just one sample a day to participate, and there’s no limit to the number of tests a practice can run.

“It’s not enough to create the world’s most advanced point-of-care chemistry analyzers if we can’t also make the technology simple to use and attainable for all our customers,” said Jay Mazelsky, Executive Vice President, IDEXX Laboratories. “Along with the Catalyst Dx Chemistry Analyzer and VetTest Chemistry Analyzer, the Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer demonstrates our commitment to provide the best integrated point-of-care, reference laboratory and diagnostic information solutions for veterinarians worldwide.”

The Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer will begin shipping in Q4 2014. Contact your IDEXX Veterinary Diagnostic Consultant or call 1-800-355-2896 to get started today. Or, for more information or to schedule a demonstration, go to idexx.com/catalyst-one.
