IDEXX Surprises My Place Teen Center with Gift of a Van at Holiday Party

WESTBROOK, Maine, December 17, 2013—Responding to their need for transportation, IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. donated one of its fleet vans to My Place Teen Center (MPTC) in a surprise presentation at the Teen Center’s annual holiday party. Santa Claus arrived at the celebration driving the 2005 Chevrolet G350 van full of gifts and later handed the keys to MPTC Director Donna Dwyer.

Dwyer was overjoyed and spoke in front of more than 100 teens at the party. “This is just the best holiday gift we could have imagined and I want to thank IDEXX from the bottom of my heart. When I mentioned that we needed transportation in order to serve these kids, I never thought my wish would be granted so quickly, nor did I envision such a wonderful, large van. This is going to make all of our lives so much better. And what’s more, this donation will allow us to qualify for a matching grant from the Cornelia Warren Foundation that will provide us with $20,000 to put into a fund to buy fuel. The goodness in our community is overwhelming.”

When the Teen Center first started planning for their holiday party, Dwyer mentioned her wish list to Betsy Richards, Public and Community Relations Manager at IDEXX Laboratories. The van, slated to be retired from the IDEXX fleet, will be repainted with the My Place Teen Center logo in the coming weeks. IDEXX updated the van with new parts and systems and is also providing a 30,000-mile maintenance package through Quirk Chevrolet, bringing the total value of the donation to $15,000.

George James, Director of Facilities at IDEXX Laboratories was also at the celebration. “Our vehicle fleet is well maintained and this van has low mileage and can provide good, reliable transportation to My Place Teen Center for a number of years. We are so pleased to hand over the keys and see it put to good use. On behalf of the 2,000 employees at our headquarters in Westbrook, we wish each and every one of you a safe holiday season and a Happy New Year.”

FairPoint Communications and Unum sponsored the gifts and refreshments for the holiday event.
