IDEXX Laboratories and AAHA Announce Agreement to Advance the Client-centric Animal Hospital [Trade]

WESTBROOK, Maine, November 27, 2012—IDEXX Laboratories and the American Animal Hospital Association are revolutionizing the way veterinary professionals practice medicine and communicate with their clients with innovative information management tools.

IDEXX and AAHA have combined forces in a new preferred business provider agreement to offer the IDEXX Cornerstone Practice Management System and IDEXX Pet Health Network Pro client communication service, which together form the first fully integrated Client and Practice Management System. The client-centric approach recognizes the important bond between the hospital and their clients, the pet owners, as a critical element of providing the best care to pets. Recent analysis by AAHA and IDEXX showed that an integrated, client-centric approach—including practice marketing, regular newsletters, client education, and post—visit report cards—generates higher word of mouth, stronger pet owner loyalty, and higher compliance to care recommendations.1

"AAHA and IDEXX are leading the industry in working to build the future generation of client-centric practice management software," said Michael Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP, AAHA executive director and chief executive officer. "Cornerstone, Pet Health Network Pro and this new integrated approach will allow veterinary professionals the freedom to run their practice from start to finish."

Cornerstone's comprehensive medical and management feature set, including medical notes with smart group codes and a robust electronic whiteboard, have made it a preferred system among AAHA member hospitals. Pet Health Network Pro adds easy-to-use, personalized communication tools for driving traffic, building loyalty and strengthening the connection with clients. Now with Cornerstone 8.3, Pet Health Network Pro is built into the system, making client communication tools available when and where the veterinary practice team needs them.

"We believe that a client-centric approach provides profound opportunities for practice growth and pet health, which is why we are building this innovation into our software offerings," said Jonathan Ayers, president and chief executive officer of IDEXX Laboratories. "We are privileged to partner with AAHA, and see partnerships like this as an important part of helping the profession grow."

As part of the agreement, AAHA and IDEXX are also working together to establish and promote client-centric best practices. Examples include "forward-booking" the next appointment upon check-out to increase compliance with regular preventive care exams and making it easy to share diagnostic and other pet healthcare information in client-friendly formats to better educate clients and demonstrate the value of a visit to the hospital. AAHA will be rolling out additional practice management advancements between now and the AAHA Yearly Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, March 14–17, 2013. "A comprehensive, integrated system with a strong client communications component is vital in helping veterinary practices run better while increasing client traffic to those practices," Cavanaugh said. "Keep watching as we continue to revolutionize practice information management systems in support of client-centric medicine."
