IDEXX Laboratories Revolutionizes Veterinary Point-of-Care Hematology Testing—Again [Trade]

Veterinarians can further enhance the comprehensive Real-Time Care they provide their patients and clients

WESTBROOK, Maine, September 26, 2012—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. announces several exciting new diagnostic test features for the ProCyte Dx Hematology Analyzer and LaserCyte Hematology Analyzer. ProCyte Dx analyzer customers will now receive important diagnostic information on band, or immature, neutrophils and nucleated red blood cells. In addition, both analyzers will have the capability of running other body fluids, such as abdominal and thoracic fluids, and the validated capability to run several additional species, including rabbit, gerbil and swine, on the ProCyte Dx analyzer, and ferret and swine on the LaserCyte analyzer.

“Combined with the already robust capabilities of our current hematology offerings, these new features will help clinics provide the highest standard of care,” said Dennis B. DeNicola, DVM, PhD, DACVP, IDEXX Chief Veterinary Educator. “Both the ProCyte Dx and LaserCyte analyzers have always provided a five-part differential and absolute reticulocyte count, the gold standards for veterinary hematology. With the additional new diagnostic information, we can now provide veterinarians with an even more complete data set within minutes, during patient visits, to assist in better patient outcomes and improved client experiences.”

The expanded diagnostic capabilities enhance every patient visit, providing critical information for preventive care or early disease screening, sick-animal testing, preanesthetic screens, rechecks and monitoring. An advanced five-part white blood cell differential with indications of the presence of band neutrophils helps differentiate inflammation from stress and excitement. Fluid analysis provides real-time cell counts and partial cellular differentiation to assist in fluid classification. Nucleated red blood cells assist in the identification of potential bone marrow damage from conditions like acute lead toxicity, endotoxemia and neoplastic spread to the marrow. This new menu is provided to existing IDEXX customers in the current IDEXX VetLab Station software release at no additional charge, continuing the tradition of offering ongoing improvements long after instruments are originally purchased.

IDEXX hematology analyzers are backed by world-class IDEXX customer support and benefit from continuous innovation. The analyzers’ broad test menus and ease of use help increase practice efficiency and deliver on the philosophy of giving veterinarians everything they need within minutes, with the least amount of technician time required.

“With Real-Time Care, veterinarians can review and explain results and confidently make recommendations during visits, reducing both client anxiety and the need for callbacks,” said Casey Etter, Senior Marketing Manager at IDEXX. “Face-to-face conversations like these appreciably increase client understanding and trust as well as compliance for advanced patient care and a more profitable practice.”
