IDEXX Laboratories Introduces an Online Resource to Help Veterinary Practices Implement Consistent Protocols [Trade]

STEPs—Simple Tools for Effective Protocols—provides all the tools for an organized, methodical approach that helps ensure success

WESTBROOK, Maine, February 29, 2012—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. announces the launch of a new web-based resource for veterinary practices that wish to establish consistent protocols for a higher standard of patient care and improved client experiences. STEPs, Simple Tools for Effective Protocols at idexx.com/steps, helps practice managers or owners better manage change with a complete set of tools for staff training, protocol implementation, pet-owner education and gauging progress.

"The STEPs site takes the pain out of practice improvement by putting all the tools a practice needs to implement consistent protocols in one convenient place," says Christina Peterson, Education Marketing Manager at IDEXX. "From management training, sample scripts and role plays that build staff confidence, to medical algorithms, client brochures and consent forms—it's all there in one easy-to-follow, self-guided program—at no charge. To help ensure changes gain traction, practices can use a troubleshooting chart to check their progress at 30-, 60- and 90-day intervals."

The new resource at idexx.com/steps is a natural extension of the IDEXX Learning Center and fully integrates with the recently launched pet-owner resource, Pet Health Network at pethealthnetwork.com. The IDEXX Learning Center, through partnerships with veterinary experts, provides webinars, online courses, instructional snippets and much more to strengthen the medical knowledge and skills needed to build stronger practices. The Pet Health Network website helps educate pet owners with information and advice designed to help them better understand their role—and their veterinarian’s role—in ensuring the best care for their pet.

"STEPs will help you grow medical areas, such as feline cardiac health and dentistry, as well as achieve work-flow efficiencies in your practice," says Wendy S. Myers1, President of Communication Solutions for Veterinarians and a partner in Animal Hospital Specialty Center, a 13-doctor AAHA-accredited referral practice in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. "STEPs will walk you through the three important components for change: staff training for a consistent message; creating a step-by-step plan for implementation; and how to use the tools, resources and handouts you need to get clients to say 'yes' to your recommendations."

Practice managers, owners or others responsible for staff training and education can visit idexx.com/steps, choose a protocol and get started today.
