Easy. Rapid. Accurate. Approved.
U.S. EPA Approves IDEXX Quanti-Tray Methods for Wastewater Testing.
A widely used line of water testing
products can now be used to test
wastewater. In a ruling issued March
26, 2007, the U.S. EPA approved
the IDEXX Quanti-Tray® method with Colilert®, Colilert®-18 and Enterolert®
for determining compliance with National
Pollution Discharge Elimination System
(NPDES) wastewater regulations1.
This new usage expands the range of
IDEXX testing functionality to meet water
regulations, which also includes Drinking
Water2, Ambient Water3 (Source and
Recreational Water), Groundwater4 and Surface Water5.
The advantages of wastewater approval
for your laboratory are ease, speed and
accuracy, and now even greater flexibility
and cost effectiveness.
Rapid, reliable results
IDEXX tests are easy to set up and deliver
results in a very short turnaround time.
Using Quanti-Tray or Quanti-Tray®/2000,
Colilert and Colilert-18 are specified for
the detection of E.coli in wastewater while
Enterolert is specified for the detection
of enterococci. This system dramatically
reduces the amount of time to run tests and achieve results. Quanti-Tray requires
less than one minute of hands-on time to
run. Colilert provides quantitative E. coli
results in 24 hours, while Colilert-18
delivers results in as little as 18 hours.
Enterococci results are ready in 24 hours
with Enterolert, half the time of traditional
membrane filtration testing.
This new approval is a major milestone
in the transition from monitoring fecal
coliforms to testing for E. coli and
enterococci in wastewater to ensure public
health. With our increasing number of
approvals, IDEXX is leading the way.

Filta-Max xpress® Receives U.S. EPA Approval
Earlier this year, the U.S. EPA accepted IDEXX Filta-Max xpress® for use with Methods 1622 and
1623 to capture and recover samples of Cryptosporidium and Giardia.*
The easiest and fastest Cryptosporidium and Giardia capture and recovery system available,
Filta-Max xpress is a breakthrough in filter processing that works in less than two minutes with just
the push of a button. The unique architecture of the foam filter module uses air pressure to force
a specifically developed elution buffer through the filter for fast, reliable results.
- Effectively captures and recovers oocysts and cysts from a wide range of raw water matrices
- Eliminates the need to batch so you can process samples on arrival
- Promotes higher productivity in your laboratory
With U.S. EPA approval, Filta-Max xpress offers the assurance of another important component
among the world’s preferred water microbiology product lines.

Another line of defense for your water testing
TECH TIP
Irradiating Colilert/Colisure
products creates a slight change
to the color of the packaging and
to the color of the powder. This
does not affect the integrity of the
packaging or the performance of
the product.
All IDEXX Colilert®/Colisure® products are now irradiated for superior quality
and reliability. Now the world’s most trusted coliform and E. coli testing
products, Colilert, Colilert®-18 and Colisure are gamma irradiated at low levels which:
- Eliminates the risk of bacterial contamination
- Leaves usage and shelf life unchanged
- Maintains EPA approved performance
