Colilert®-18 brings technical advances,
flexibility and savings to your laboratory
|
|
Water testing laboratories across the United States and
Canada are increasingly benefiting from Colilert-18, the fastest US
EPA-approved total coliform/ E. coli approved test.
Colilert-18 can improve the operating efficiency of your laboratory
and broaden your testing capabilities.
Colilert-18
Streamlines Laboratory Workflow
An 18-hour time to result means that samples run in the afternoon
can be read the following morning. This leaves the afternoon free to
accept the next day's incoming samples. Smoothing the day's workflow
can improve operating efficiencies, particularly in large-volume
laboratories. Resampling, recording of results and other paperwork can
be completed before the next afternoon rush begins. In addition,
samples run on Friday afternoon can be read early Saturday morning,
leaving the rest of the weekend free.

US
EPA-Approved for Ambient Waters
Colilert-18/Quanti-Tray®, is US EPA-approved under Guidelines
Establishing Test Procedures for the Analysis of Pollutants;
Analytical Methods for Biological Pollutants in Ambient Water; Final
Rule, effective August 20, 2003. Colilert-18/Quanti-Tray offers
laboratories the ability to easily and quickly enumerate E. coli
in fresh or marine water. View
Ambient Water Rule.
The Ambient Water Rule marks the first time the US EPA has specified E.
coli as a water-quality indicator for ambient water under The
Clean Water Act. The EPA recommends testing for E. coli and
enterococci indicators in recreational waters in place of fecal
coliforms, as studies have shown that E. coli and enterococci
levels correlate directly with swimming-associated gastrointestinal
illness rates.

In the United Kingdom, all approved total coliform/E. coli
methods for drinking water, including Colilert-18/Quanti-Tray, are
18-hour tests. This allows laboratories to respond quicker to public
health issues and improves laboratory work patterns.

TECH TIP
To detect E. coli in marine water with
Colilert-18/Quanti-Tray, first dilute the sample by a minimum of
1:10 using sterile water.

Detect
Fecal Coliforms
Colilert-18 can also detect fecal coliforms in water. In a study of
wastewater samples comparing Colilert-18/Quanti-Tray and mFC testing
methods, Colilert-18 produced comparable results to mFC.
