The
Quanti-Tray® Method:
Microbiological quantification made easy
|
|
Since IDEXX
introduced the Quanti-Tray method in 1994, thousands of laboratories
around the world have benefitted from the method's ability to easily,
quickly and accurately detect coliforms, E. coli and
enterococci.
Now the U.S. EPA has approved IDEXX reagents and the Quanti-Tray
method as part of its final Ambient Water Rule. This rule encourages
states to use E. coli and enterococci as indicators of fecal
contamination in ambient water. Colilert®,
Colilert®-18, Enterolert®,
Quanti-Tray and Quanti-Tray/2000 are now approved methods for these
indicators under The Rule.
|
|
The Quanti-Tray method is based on the standard most probable
number approach for enumerating bacteria in a sample. But unlike
multiple-tube fermentation—also based on this
approach—Quanti-Tray is simple and precise.
The Quanti-Tray Sealer automates the procedure, minimizing hands-on
time and maximizing throughput (up to four samples per minute).
Quanti-Tray's 51 wells provide a high counting range (up to 200/100 mL
without dilutions), and very tight 95% confidence limits.
Quanti-Tray/2000 features 97 wells and provides counts up to 2,419/100
mL.

IDEXX has sold more than 3,000 Quanti-Tray Sealers worldwide.
|
TECH TIP
Labs that want to process Quanti-Trays at maximum throughput can
purchase a second Quanti-Tray rubber insert. Using two inserts, the
Quanti-Tray Sealer can continually process samples, completing up to
four samples per minute.

Improvements
In the past two years, IDEXX has further improved Quanti-Tray's
ease of use:
-
New rubber inserts: Rubber inserts for Quanti-Tray and
Quanti-Tray/2000 now feature beveled ends to ease tray feeding and
18-mL overflow wells to help eliminate spills into the sealer.

-
Preventive maintenance instructions are available for download
or can be ordered for
free by calling 1-800 321-0207.
-
Free MPN software diskettes perform the automatic calculation of
MPN results, as well as 95% confidence limits. These can be ordered
by calling 1-800-321-0207.
