What makes a diagnostic-quality image?

When considering a digital imaging system, make sure it produces diagnostic-quality images.

Easily discernible bone and soft tissues—Look for a clean, nonblurred line of differentiation.
Crisp bone detail—In most cases, you should see the spongelike trabecular patterns.
Clearly identifiable organs—Blurry or fuzzy thorax/abdomen images compromise diagnostic accuracy.
Clear distinction of joints and related soft tissues—Elbow and stifle radiographs, for example, should have discernible densities across bone, joints and soft tissues.
Consistent contrast across all bone densities, image to image—Helps you spot weak areas of the bone.
