M. hyo.

Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

Enzootic pneumonia, or mycoplasma pneumonia of swine, a chronic disease with a high morbidity and a low mortality, is caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyo). The clinical signs include a chronic nonproductive cough, retarded growth, slow onset, and spread and repeated occurrence of the disease. The IDEXX M. hyo. antibody ELISA allows rapid screening for the presence of antibodies to Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, which can be an indicator of exposure to the agent. Monitoring the immune status of a herd with regard to M. hyo. can play an important role in the control of this disease.
