REV
Reticuloendotheliosis Virus
Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is a retrovirus that is morphologically similar to, but genetically distinct from, the
avian leukosis/sarcoma viruses. Runting disease has been reported in chickens through the application of vaccines
contaminated with REV. In addition, REV can produce disease in experimentally infected chickens that is pathologically
indistinguishable from lymphoid leukosis. An assessment of infection with REV requires a measurement of antibody to REV
in serum. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) are especially suitable for screening chicken flocks.
