Our highly
specific and sensitive S. equi polymerase chain reaction
(PCR) test helps detect the presence of S. equi DNA.
Plus, we
automatically provide a culture identification of beta hemolytic Streptococcus
organisms to allow for confirmation of a positive PCR result.
(Positives must be considered presumptive until confirmed by culture
because PCR cannot distinguish between dead and live organisms).
It's the only
protocol available that provides confirmation to support a confident
diagnosis.
