Our highly specific and sensitive S. equi polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test helps detect the presence of S. equi DNA.
Plus, we automatically provide a culture identification of beta hemolytic Streptococcus organisms to allow for confirmation of a positive PCR result. (Positives must be considered presumptive until confirmed by culture because PCR cannot distinguish between dead and live organisms).
It's the only protocol available that provides confirmation to support a confident diagnosis.

The IDEXX S. equi RealPCR and Culture ID Test is performed daily, Monday–Friday.

PCR results are available within 48 hours.
Culture identification test results are available within 72 hours
of sample receipt.

Just two simple steps are required to collect and submit samples.

Collect nasal or guttural pouch washes in buffered saline into a sterile, screw-top container. Or submit nasal swabs in transport media without charcoal.
