IDEXX/EBI®
Announcing 3 more tests from the
equine diagnostic specialists you trust
IDEXX/EBI Equine Herpes Virus Type 1 (EHV-1) RealPCR™ Test
- Quickly detects the presence of EHV-1 in whole blood or nasal swabs
- Valuable in helping you identify horses exposed to
EHV-1 by a confirmed case
- Additionally identifies EHV-1 strains containing a mutation that is highly associated with neurologic disease
IDEXX/EBI West Nile Virus (WNV) IgM Capture ELISA Test
- Detects IgM response elicited by recent infection with WNV
- Can be performed on the same sample submitted for EPM testing
- Aids in the differential diagnosis of neurologic disease
IDEXX/EBI Lyme and Anaplasma Phagocytophilum ELISA Test
Lyme and Anaplasma phagocytophilum (formerly Ehrlichia equi)
- Detects, with one assay, horses infected with Borrelia burgdorferi
and/or Anaplasma phagocytophilum
- High sensitivity and specificity
- A more accurate Lyme result based on the unique C6 peptide
- Aids in the differential diagnosis of neurologic disease

IDEXX/EBI
Equine Herpes
Virus 1 (EHV-1)
RealPCR™ Test
Performed daily,
Monday–Saturday |
Recommended specimens are whole blood and/or nasal swabs
from both nostrils.*
- Whole blood: at least 7 mL in a 10 mL purple-top tube.
- Nasal swabs (one from each nostril): Dacron swab moistened with <0.5 mL Ringer’s solution/buffered
saline (not water) and placed in an empty, sterile red-top tube. Do not use swabs
with wooden shafts or cotton ends.
- Ship within 24 hours of collection. If necessary, store at 4°C, but do not freeze.
*Nasal swabs are used to detect animals shedding the virus or that were recently exposed to a
confirmed case. A whole blood sample is recommended from a symptomatic animal to detect viremia.
Submission of both sample types is ideal. Each sample will be considered as a separate submission. |

A new weapon in the fight against the infectious disease: Equine Herpes Virus Type 1
The sensitive IDEXX/EBI Equine Herpes Virus Type 1 (EHV-1) RealPCR™ Test
delivers speed and accuracy in detecting the presence of EHV-1 DNA.
Numerous outbreaks of EHV-1 have hit the equine industry, resulting in great loss.
EHV-1, a virus often found latent in normal horses, can present as respiratory disease
or neurologic disease, or cause abortions. Once in a population of horses, the virus is
spread quickly and can cause devastating results.
The new IDEXX/EBI EHV-1 RealPCR Test helps you confidently:
- Diagnose horses exhibiting clinical signs consistent with EHV-1 disease
- Diagnose horses exposed to confirmed EHV-1 cases
- Isolate infected or exposed horses from other susceptible horses in a timely manner
- Identify EHV-1 strains containing a mutation that is highly associated with neurologic
clinical signs
Along with the IDEXX/EBI PCR tests for Streptococcus equi and Salmonella, these
tests provide fast and reliable diagnostic tools to help equine veterinarians control
epidemiologically significant diseases in horses.
The IDEXX/EBI EHV-1 RealPCR Test is performed daily, Monday though Saturday.
- Results are available within 24 hours
- Results for specimens received on Saturday are available the following Monday
