Important Regulatory Update
for IDEXX Reference Laboratory FedEx and DHL Customers
The International Air Transportation Association requires that all air shipments of diagnostic (clinical) specimens be shipped in a box with an Exempt Animal specimen label to give airline transport workers visibility when they are handling diagnostic specimens.
If you are using a plastic lab pack bag to ship your sample submission box, please be sure that the Exempt Animal label is clearly visible through the pack or affixed to the outside of the lab pack.
If you have questions or need to order more Exempt Animal specimen labels, contact us at 1-800-621-8378. Labels are also available on the Web through various sources including www.labelmaster.com.
In addition, you should be sure to follow FedEx requirements for proper packaging of noninfectious clinical specimens on pages 23–24. (700 KB)
International Clients
Contact IDEXX to obtain the U.S. Veterinary Permit for transportation of non-infectious clinical specimens.
Remember to include a letter (on your letterhead) with your shipment that states that the included sample is from a horse that is from a country free of African Horse Sickness. Enclose the letter with the permit on the outside of the package as required by the United States Department of Agriculture.
