Feline FIV/FeLV Test Selection
Important information about why you should consider having your cat
tested for FIV and FeLV.
Feline
immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV) can be
fatal. In fact, FIV and FeLV infections are associated with illness
and death of more cats than any other infectious agent.
There are no "sure signs" of either
disease.
FIV and FeLV are:
-
Highly contagious and transmitted from cat
to cat
-
Found in every region across the country
-
Known to attack a cat's immune system in a
similar way
-
More commonly found in sick cats
FIV- and FeLV-positive cats may live healthy lives for
years if detected and treated early
The
symptoms may take years to appear. Early symptoms are more subtle and
may include changes in:
| Grooming habits |
Sleeping habits |
Eating habits |
| Behavior/Mood |
Activity levels |

Good News!
Fortunately, we have a test for both of these diseases. Testing can be
done with one blood sampleat one timewith results
in 10 minutes. That means you'll have an answer during your
cat's visit.
Diagnosis without testing is
virtually impossible. It's a small price to pay to help keep your cat
healthy.
