Canine SNAP 4Dx Test

Testing for heartworm, Ehrlichia canis, Lyme disease
and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in dogs

Important facts about anaplasmosis, caused by Anaplasma phagocytophilum (formerly E. equi), an emerging threat

  • Matt Eberts quoteLyme disease and anaplasmosis are spreading. The population of ticks (Ixodes scapularis/pacificus) that carry these serious diseases has expanded rapidly across the U.S., even to urban areas.

  • If you’re finding Lyme disease in your canine patients, you will likely also find anaplasmosis.

    • The tick that transmits Lyme also transmits Anaplasma phagocytophilum.
    • Signs of Lyme disease (mainly fever, lethargy and painful joints, or no sign at all) are also common clinical signs of anaplasmosis—considered a “silent infection.”

  • Lyme disease and anaplasmosis co-infection occurs, increasing the risk of clinical signs.1 Veterinarians are finding that dogs with multiple infections can be more likely to become sick and have internal organ damage.

Algorithm for Clinical Guidance on Anaplasma Analyte
The SNAP 4Dx Test detects Anaplasma phagocytophilum

alogorithm

*Additional diagnostics may include PCR, documentation of active infection and determination of Anaplasma species
**Supporting clinical signs of anaplasmosis diagnosis are lameness, anorexia, petechia, lethargy, fever
***Supporting CBC/chemistry evidence of anaplasmosis includes thrombocytopenia, lymphopenia, leukopenia, hyperglobulinemia

Note: Initial research data suggests the SNAP 4Dx Anaplasma phagocytophilum spot could cross-react with Anaplasma platys. In studies involving dogs infected with a laboratory strain of A. platys, the SNAP 4Dx Test was reactive with serum from 10 out of 10 infected animals.
