Introducing a
new chemistry testing innovationthe IDEXX VetTest®
Equine Health Profile
Last year, IDEXX
introduced new packaging for your IDEXX VetTest by creating 12-slide
boxes of our individual chemistries. This new package option has
helped your practice and many others to make the most of VetTest's
flexibility by customizing chemistry profiles to fit the unique needs
of patients. Customer response to this new package has been fantastic
because it supports your efforts to provide patient-focused care.
Now, we're ready to provide even more testing value with the
introduction of our newest profile, the Equine Health Profile (EHP).
|
|
|
|

This convenient VetTest panel contains the 12 essential chemistries
equine veterinarians need for screening and identifying equine health
concernsall in one package for fast, easy testing:
- Albumin (ALB)
- Alkaline phosphatase (ALKP)
- Aspartate aminotransferase (AST/SGOT)
- Calcium (Ca2+)
- Creatine kinase (CK)
- Creatine (CREA)
|
- Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT)
- Glucose (GLU)
- Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)
- Total bilirubin (TBIL)
- Total protein (TP)
- Urea nitrogen (BUN/UREA)
|
This new panel provides results
quickly, with the usual six-minute run time.
If you choose to
run plasma (which does not require clotting), you can have results in
approximately eight minutes.
The introduction of the Equine Health Profile underscores IDEXX's
dedication to providing efficient new solutions for equine
practitioners.
In addition to
using this convenient new Equine Health Profile for general
health-screening, you can use individual IDEXX VetTest slides to
create customized panels for specific equine cases, including
geriatric, presurgical and hepatic patients, as well as racehorses.

Attention SNAP®
Reader users.
In-house T4 testing is now available for dogs,
cats and horses!
Important news:
We recently validated equine samples on the IDEXX SNAP®
Reader, which means you can run SNAP® T4
tests on your equine patients using your SNAP Reader.
Please note:
Your IDEXX VetTest software has not yet been updated to allow
selection of T4 as an option when equine is chosen as a
species. This will be a feature of an upcoming software release. In
the meantime, here's how you can run equine samples:
|
| 1. |
Select FELINE for your species and run your equine sample.
Select LOW RANGE when screening your equine patients. |
| 2. |
Remember to mark on your printout that this is an equine
sample. |
| 3. |
For interpreting results, use the IDEXX Reference
Laboratories' equine reference range: 0.92.8 µg/dL. |

Meet an IDEXX Pathologist
IDEXX employs more than
50 board-certified specialists to provide your practice with
responsive, dedicated expertise and guidance.
Denise Wunn, DVM, MS, DACVP, is an IDEXX Reference Laboratories
clinical pathologist in our North Grafton laboratory. Her specialties
include equine clinical pathology, hemolytic diseases and cytology. A
graduate of Iowa State University and Washington State University, she
joined IDEXX in 2000, and completed her board certification in 2002.
Dr. Wunn enjoys her work with IDEXX customers because, "What's unique
and good about IDEXX is that we support both in-house and outside
tests on a case. A practitioner will attach the VetTest results to a
cytology or hematology request in the reference lab, and I can compare
it to what I'm seeing in the lab to help make a complete diagnostic
picture for the customer." One of Dr. Wunn's personal interests is
thoroughbred horseracing, and she has a 14-year-old cat named Topper.
