The Benefits of Preanesthetic Testing

Early Detection Early Intervention Peace of Mind

Everyone benefits from preanesthetic testing—
you, your clients, and most of all, your patients.

Determine the full health status of your patient.
Preanesthetic testing, comprised of a CBC, chemistry panel, electrolytes, urinalysis and an ECG prior to the anesthetic event, gives you the information you need to determine if your patient can safely undergo anesthesia or whether there are any underlying health issues that could put your patient at greater risk.

Modify anesthetic protocols.
With complete preanesthetic testing, you gain greater insight into the health status of your patient at the time of surgery. That way, your staff can modify procedures and protocols to ensure a safe surgical event and rapid recovery.

Establish baseline data.
Preanesthetic testing gives you a minimum database of diagnostic baseline information specific to your patient, which improves your ability to identify developing problems during future visits.

Identify abnormalities.

The laboratory data you collect from preanesthetic testing can help identify underlying abnormalities. This can be particularly helpful when animals do not show clinical signs or do not have obvious abnormalities during the physical exam.

Provide peace of mind.
Knowing you’ve done everything to minimize risks and ensure the safety of your patient prior to administering anesthesia gives you, your staff and your clients peace of mind, and helps build your clients’ trust.
