IDEXX Computer Systems Introduces Cornerstone® 7.5 Practice Management System [Trade]
Upgrade adds many new ease-of-use enhancements, improved Electronic Whiteboard functionality and an array of new digital imaging capabilities
WESTBROOK, Maine, July 22, 2008—IDEXX Computer Systems today announced the availability of IDEXX Cornerstone® 7.5, the company’s comprehensive information management system for veterinary practices. The release includes several new and enhanced features to further automate practice protocols, procedures and communication among staff for improved patient care and practice productivity. Two areas that have undergone extensive expansion are the interactive Electronic Whiteboard and the software’s digital imaging capabilities.
Cornerstone 7.5’s interactive Electronic Whiteboard allows veterinary staff to follow patient progress throughout the hospital from any Cornerstone workstation and eliminates the need for a physical whiteboard and paper file handoffs. A color-coded grid alerts staff members to every patient’s treatment status and provides visual alerts to overdue and pending care needs. Additionally, completed treatments entered in the Electronic Whiteboard are automatically invoiced, reducing the chance of overlooking charges that can occur in the manual recording of information written on dry-erase boards currently used in many practices.
Cornerstone 7.5 offers several levels of digital imaging capabilities—including basic and diagnostic digital imaging—to meet a wide range of practice needs. Cornerstone’s basic imaging capabilities allow users to import images and move electronic files more easily from scanners, digital cameras and other external media sources. New imaging functionality also allows users to create customized CDs that include both patient images and an image viewer for more effective referrals and client education. The enhanced image viewer component also streamlines image enhancement and annotation, and allows images to be e-mailed directly from IDEXX Cornerstone. Users of Cornerstone’s Diagnostic Imaging module can now efficiently create, import, query, print, retrieve, send and receive any DICOM1-compatible images, compare and view digital images side-by-side and automatically route images to the server-of-choice for more efficient storage of image files. The system can also capture still frames from live video feeds and from compatible movie files.
An optional module for Cornerstone 7.5 allows users to connect to IDEXX Digital Imaging Systems through IDEXX SmartLink™ technology. This connection dramatically streamlines the digital image ordering process by allowing staff members to request, capture, view, share and automatically bill for IDEXX digital x-ray imaging, all from within the Cornerstone system. “The SmartLink digital imaging features in Cornerstone make diagnostic imaging more convenient, capturing charges that previously may have been missed with manual tracking,” says Caroline Cataldo, practice manager at Veterinary Emergency Center in Staten Island, New York. “The imaging process is much more efficient and professional, and is a great way to improve client education.”
Cornerstone 7.5 also provides users of the system’s inventory capabilities with the ability to track supply levels at individual locations including mobile veterinary units. The release also introduces a new approach to help automate inventory supply ordering from veterinary industry distribution companies.
In addition, Cornerstone’s menu of popular integrated Wilson2 legal consent documents has been updated and now includes Spanish versions. Cornerstone can pre-populate the Wilson consent forms with client and patient information, customize the forms to meet practice-specific needs, capture client signatures electronically, print copies for clients to take home with them and lock the signed documents so they become a permanent part of a patient’s medical record.
