IDEXX Laboratories Announces Faster SNAP T4 Test [Trade]
Delivers total T4 results and the ability to screen for thyroid disorders in just minutes
Westbrook, Maine, April 24, 2008—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX) announces a new SNAP T4 Test that can be run on plasma, eliminating the need to allow for serum sample clotting time and saving up to 20 minutes in sample preparation. Combined with plasma’s incubation time of only six minutes and a test run time of seven minutes, the improved test gives veterinarians total T4 results in 15 minutes or less, and enables practices to screen easily for hypothyroidism, diagnose hyperthyroidism and monitor the effectiveness of patient medication plans. This significantly improves practice work flow and frees technicians’ time for other pressing tasks.

IDEXX also announces an additional improvement for both the SNAP T4 and SNAP® Cortisol Tests. When SNAP Cortisol and SNAP T4 Tests are removed from the refrigerator in the morning, they are ready to use when needed with no warm-up time necessary. The SNAP Cortisol Test allows veterinarians to screen for Cushing’s syndrome and Addison’s disease and monitor long-term medications in just minutes, so they can offer clients answers and begin treatment, if necessary, before patients and clients leave the practice.
“These test improvements represent time savings that can add up quickly and have a significant impact on the timeliness of patient care, especially in emergency situations,” said Paul Levesque, IDEXX Senior Marketing Manager, Chemistry.
The SNAP T4 and Cortisol Tests—as well as the SNAP® Bile Acids Test—are run on either the SNAPshot Dx™ Analyzer, whose two test ports allow multiple-patient testing, with results automatically read and printed into patient report and records, or the SNAP® Reader Analyzer. Both the SNAPshot Dx Analyzer and the SNAP Reader Analyzer are integral parts of the IDEXX VetLab® Suite of integrated in-house analyzers.
IDEXX SNAP® test results are automatically integrated into patient records with the IDEXX VetLab® Station Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), for a complete look at each patient’s health status. Reference ranges for SNAP tests are also a standard feature printed in the IDEXX VetLab Station LIMS report for simple results interpretation.
The SNAP T4 and Cortisol Tests are part of the IDEXX SNAP® family of ELISA tests, trusted for years for quick, accurate pet-side results.
