IDEXX Introduces Easier Screening Protocol and Refined Sensitivities for SNAP® Tetracycline Test Kit [Trade]
Improved SNAP Tetracycline Test Kit supports dairy and plant processing quality assurance programs, lowers risk of dumping safe milk
Westbrook, Maine, January 25, 2008—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX), announces the U.S. and Canada launch of its improved milk residue screening SNAP® Tetracycline Test Kit. The test’s sensitivity parameters have been refined to detect antibiotic concentrations more in line with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Tolerance Levels and European Maximum Residues Limits. The result is significantly fewer subviolative positives, and the risk of dumping safe milk is dramatically lowered. In addition, the protocol steps are completed rapidly, in no more than ten minutes: five minutes for incubation and four minutes for color development.
“IDEXX is committed to meeting the market’s demand for more efficient dairy testing that reduces the incidence of unnecessary milk dumping. Therefore, we are pleased to offer this enhanced method of screening for tetracycline drug residues while delivering the same accuracy and ease of use as all our SNAP® dairy testing products,” commented Tove Rasmussen, General Manager of IDEXX Dairy.
The new SNAP Tetracycline Test Kit protocol allows for a five-minute incubation, a quick application of the milk sample, and then just four minutes before reading the results. Dairy producers and processors will now be able to detect tetracycline residues in raw, commingled cow milk at or below 50 parts per billion (ppb), chlortetracycline at or below 100 ppb, and oxytetracycline at or below 50 ppb.
John Forsee, IDEXX Sales Manager for Eastern U.S. and Canada, added, “All these factors make the SNAP Tetracycline Test Kit an extremely effective choice for antibiotic residue screening in the barn and at processing plants. It’s another practical solution in our long history of dairy testing innovation for our customers and represents an increase in value with no increase in price.”
