IDEXX Reference Laboratories Announces New IDEXX RealPCR™ Feline Hemotropic Mycoplasma (FHM) Test [Trade]
New PCR test takes the guesswork out of diagnosing the cause of feline anemia

Westbrook, Maine, January 17, 2008—IDEXX Reference Laboratories, a division of IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX), recently introduced a new IDEXX RealPCR™ test to help veterinary practitioners take the guesswork out of diagnosing the cause of feline anemia. Veterinary professionals can perform an IDEXX RealPCR™ FHM Test on anemic patients to quickly identify and begin treating infected cats or rule out an FHM infection.

The test utilizes real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) methodology to detect Mycoplasma haemofelis, Candidatus Mycoplasma haemominutum and Candidatus Mycoplasma turicensis, and provides a more sensitive result than microscopic evaluation. With results in one to three days, this test can help veterinarians quickly and accurately diagnose FHM as the cause of severe hemolytic anemia in cats. The test was developed by IDEXX's new Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory team under the direction of Christian Leutenegger, DrVetMed, PhD, FVH. It can be ordered separately, with chemistry/CBC panels, or added to routine laboratory tests from IDEXX Reference Laboratories.
