IDEXX Reference Laboratories Announces New RealPCR™ Feline Upper Respiratory Disease Panel [Trade]
Quickly identifies the causes of feline upper respiratory disease

Westbrook, Maine, January 16, 2008—IDEXX Reference Laboratories, a division of IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX), recently introduced a new IDEXX RealPCR™ test to help veterinary practitioners quickly identify the causes of feline upper respiratory disease. Veterinary practitioners can improve patient diagnosis by adding the RealPCR™ Feline Upper Respiratory Disease (Feline URD) Panel to any routine test order.

The test utilizes real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) methodology to detect the five most common organisms causing feline URD: feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1), feline calicivirus (FCV), Chlamydophila felis (formerly known as Chlamydia psittaci), Mycoplasma felis and Bordetella bronchiseptica—all from a single lab submission. With results in one to three days, veterinarians can quickly choose appropriate treatment and quarantine infected animals. The test was developed by IDEXX’s new Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory team under the direction of Christian Leutenegger, DrVetMed, PhD, FVH. It can be ordered separately, with chemistry/CBC panels, or added to routine laboratory tests from IDEXX Reference Laboratories.
