IDEXX Laboratories launches IDEXX Coag Dx™ Analyzer [Trade]
Fast and sensitive in-clinic diagnostic testing for coagulation disorders in animals
Westbrook, Maine, December 21, 2007—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX), announces the launch of the IDEXX Coag Dx™ Analyzer. This newest member of the IDEXX VetLab® Suite enables veterinarians to conduct comprehensive coagulation testing in-clinic, and delivers results in seconds for fresh and citrated whole blood prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). The capacity for immediate detection of clotting disorders, an essential part of hemostatic testing, is pivotal in the successful treatment of the bleeding patient as well as in the management of many critical care and surgery cases. The IDEXX Coag Dx™ Analyzer, by assessing abnormalities in the intrinsic, extrinsic and common pathways of a whole blood sample, yields sensitive and accurate diagnoses of coagulation disorders in animals.
“Laboratory tests are essential in characterizing hemostatic disorders. The IDEXX Coag Dx Analyzer brings this capability into the clinic,” said Michelle Frye, MS, DVM, IDEXX Medical Affairs Manager. “When combined with a complete blood count, testing on the IDEXX Coag Dx Analyzer helps veterinarians quickly diagnose bleeding disorders, so that the appropriate treatment can be initiated promptly for the critical bleeding patient.” Dr. Frye added, “In addition, pre-procedural screening for clotting problems in at-risk animals helps anticipate and avoid bleeding complications during or after the procedure—times when taking corrective measures can be problematic.”
The IDEXX Coag Dx Analyzer is an integral part of the IDEXX VetLab® Suite of analyzers,
the in-clinic laboratory that delivers comprehensive, in-depth diagnostics, flexibility in testing, and efficiencies that minimize staff time and effort. Results for hematology, chemistry, electrolytes, endocrinology, urinalysis, blood gas and coagulation are simply and seamlessly integrated through the IDEXX VetLab® Station, which also offers archiving and easy access to historical results for identifying and graphically reporting trends.
Tina Hunt, PhD, Marketing Manager at IDEXX Laboratories, cited a recent IDEXX market research study involving 100 U.S. practitioners, “Sixty-eight percent of veterinarians interviewed agreed that there is an advantage to running coagulation in-clinic.” The IDEXX Coag Dx Analyzer will connect to the IDEXX VetLab Suite with the IDEXX VetLab Station 2.30 software update, and the coagulation results will appear along with the rest of a patient’s diagnostic results in one integrated report. Dr. Hunt concluded, “With the addition of the Coag Dx Analyzer to the IDEXX VetLab Suite, IDEXX now offers veterinarians the most comprehensive point-of-care diagnostic solution, providing reference laboratory capabilities for in-house blood work.”
The veterinary-specific Coag Dx Analyzer can be used with four cartridges: prothrombin time (PT) for fresh and citrated whole blood and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) for fresh and citrated whole blood.
