IDEXX Laboratories Launches the SNAP® cPL™ Test to Screen for Pancreatitis in Dogs [Trade]
Rapid assay test provides easy, effective means to diagnose or help rule out pancreatitis in minutes

Westbrook, Maine, July 17, 2007—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDXX), today announced the launch of the SNAP® cPL™ Test (canine pancreas-specific lipase), the first pet-side screening test developed to measure lipase enzyme levels specific to the pancreas and provide a more complete diagnostic picture in dogs presenting with vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain and diarrhea (VAAD). This test helps veterinarians take an early step in targeting pancreatitis as a potential cause of illness during the patient visit.

IDEXX SNAP cPL Test“Knowing that pancreatitis has been difficult to diagnose in sick dogs due to nonspecific clinical signs and a lack of definitive diagnostics, we developed the SNAP cPL Test to provide accurate answers in minutes,” said Mike Sullivan, marketing director of the Canine Rapid Assay Division. “This test is the next generation of the popular IDEXX Reference Laboratories’ Spec cPL® Test, developed in collaboration with Drs. David Williams and Jörg Steiner, to offer the most sensitive and specific test available.”

The nonspecific symptoms of VAAD can just as easily signal a life-threatening illness—such as acute pancreatitis—as a minor condition. When dogs have abnormal results on the SNAP cPL Test, practitioners can quickly provide pet owners with answers and a plan for further diagnostics and/or treatment. Practices can then send out to IDEXX Reference Laboratories for a quantitative Spec cPL Test, which can help assess response to treatment and monitor a dog’s health after recovery. Therefore, the ability to diagnose or rule out acute pancreatitis at an early stage is an important enhancement to providing optimal patient care.

The new SNAP cPL Test uses ELISA technology for trusted accuracy. In just 10 minutes, the SNAP cPL Test provides a “normal” or “abnormal” result for pancreatic lipase levels.
