IDEXX Laboratories Launches the IDEXX VetLab® UA Analyzer and Strips
Introducing the first urine strip analyzer validated specifically for canine, feline and equine patients

Westbrook, Maine, October 25, 2006—IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDXX), has launched the IDEXX VetLab® UA™ Analyzer and Strips to provide veterinary professionals with an easier, more efficient and consistent method of conducting urinalysis. This analyzer is the newest member of the IDEXX VetLab® Suite, the world's most complete in-house veterinary laboratory. It will provide a more comprehensive diagnostic solution to the veterinarian and fill an important gap in integrated reporting, trending and patient results management through its integration with the IDEXX VetLab® Station. The IDEXX UA™ Strips, specifically validated for the veterinary market, can be used manually or with the new IDEXX VetLab UA Analyzer.

IDEXX VetLab UA Analyzer and StripsAccording to Dr. Michelle Frye, Medical Affairs Manager at IDEXX Laboratories, “The IDEXX VetLab UA Analyzer and IDEXX UA Strips allow practices to confidently and accurately perform urinalyses in-house. It has been well established that the urinalysis is a critical part of the minimum database of diagnostic testing for sick animals. This system marks the first in-house urinalysis test specifically validated for veterinary medicine. The new IDEXX VetLab UA Analyzer is simple to operate, improves clinic workflow and produces consistent results on a professional printout. When combined with a urine sediment exam, this test provides unparalleled accuracy and precision for in-house urinalysis testing.” The IDEXX VetLab UA Analyzer reads IDEXX UA Strips automatically with photo reflectance, compensating for the intrinsic urine color with a compensation pad on the strips. This automatic read ensures consistent, reliable results. The analyzer offers one-button operation with a simple user interface navigated via three menu buttons, and the combined analysis time for each test strip is approximately 70 seconds.

The analyzer generates a detailed print report of the urinalysis test results and automatically captures the data electronically, linking it to the IDEXX VetLab Station or LaserCyte® Hematology Analyzer. Through this connectivity, the urinalysis results are included on an integrated patient report that provides hematology, chemistry, electrolytes and endocrinology results from the complete IDEXX VetLab Suite.

This report can be a critical educational tool when assessing a patient’s condition and discussing diagnoses and treatment plans with clients.
